History
There is so much to be said and so
little time to say it.
A new book is
released in Feb 2007 that detail the full history of the battalion. See
New Book
See Briefly
for the text of the back cover, briefly giving an overview of the 2/18th
history.
You can also catch up on recent
"history" by reviewing the Battalion's
Newsletters. We now even have Newsletter #001 from 1946!
We also plan to use this page as a
launching point for stories provided by our members and their families, to provide
some details of that early and war time history.
The first of these is not only
history but a mystery. We have located what appears to be a 2/18th bugle.
Read the story of the bugle and let us
know via feedback if you can help us solve the
mystery.
Recently a memorial paying tribute
to lives lost art Parit Sulong was dedicated. Lynette Silver provides
background and pictures at History -
Parit Sulong.

We are extremely grateful to Joan Okey & family
for providing this
a copy of a
letter written by her Dad, Major D.T. Okey to his sister
Jessie Okey
(whose pet name was Det). This 16 page letter very briefly outlines
the movements of the unit until the fall of Singapore and then provides
extensive details of the day to day activities of the POWs and various specifics
over the time, including the beginning of the air raids. Very interesting
reading.
